Too fast! I should be doing 1500s in the 4:55 - 4:58 range. The idea behind VO2max intervals is to work at the slowest pace that elicits VO2max and I was definitely beyond that. In other words, "the workout becomes more stressful and the benefits no greater" (JD, 2005). Occasionally pushing into the anaerobic metabolism zone isn't inherently bad, but it is a tool that should be used with excessive caution.
